Project Management Foundations Course Design
Project Management Foundations training is evolving. The PMBOK 8 will soon be released and there will be some training updates including a mew exam. Whether you are attending a university in a formal project management degree program or working and studying hard for your PMP exam, you need the latest information and training. In July 2026, the new exam will begin. There have been updates and changes including reordering of the material. This small course build is an example of a small online course for adult learners in both the university and the workforce to learn the foundations of project management. As always, my main reference i the PMBOK (The PM Bible) Guide 7 and 8.
COurse Artifacts
When building a course there are many parts. There is a great deal of planning and research involved. For simplicity, I am going to share the main artifacts.
Instructional design planning document demonstrating course architecture, learning alignment, scaffolding strategy, sequencing decisions, learner analysis, and assessment mapping. Developed using learner-centered design principles and backward design methodology.
Multimedia instructional materials designed to support cognitive engagement, visual learning, concept scaffolding, and instructor-led facilitation in online and technology-enhanced learning environments.
Structured learner support materials designed to reinforce comprehension, reduce cognitive overload, encourage reflection, and support self-paced review through clear, accessible instructional writing.
Activities & Engagement
Interactive learning activities designed to promote active learning, learner participation, discussion, reflection, scenario-based application, and authentic engagement aligned to adult learning theory.
Assessments
Scenario-based formative assessments designed to measure conceptual understanding, application, analysis, and transfer of learning through authentic problem-solving tasks and aligned learning outcomes.
This guide will assist students in navigating the course and ensure that they are able to complete all of the activities.
